Dr Rupa Huq, MP for Ealing Central and Acton has been appointed to the role of Shadow Minister for Home Affairs with responsibility for Crime prevention.
The brief includes CCTV, DNA and drugs amongst other things.
She bolsters the team headed by the New Shadow Home Secretary, Diane Abbott MP.
Dr Huq said “I am delighted to join the Labour Frontbench under Jeremy Corbyn and am looking forward to getting stuck in to my brief and taking the fight to the Tories.”
It’s a big change from protesting on the backbenches to being part of the shadow ministerial team and a rapid ascent but Rupa who’s been an MP for less than 18 months assured the Ealing Gazette that it’d be business as usual.
“Despite my new role, my constituents can be rest assured that I will still continue to hold my weekly advice surgeries, respond to all correspondence and be visible within Ealing Central and Acton.
When asked about her new boss she commented I’ve known Diane since before I was an MP. She has always been a good friend of Ealing Labour and campaigned for us several times in the run up to the election.”
