Latte Matte of Northfields Avenue are all about the coffee, but building a firm base in their local community comes a close second. This is why Rupa invited Seema Malhotra MP to join her there to celebrate Small Business Saturday.
Small Business Saturday falls annually on the first shopping Saturday in December. Originally a US initiative, it was brought to the UK by Labour's Shadow Business Secretary Chuka Umunna MP, who said:
“On one of the busiest shopping days of the year Small Business Saturday puts a spotlight on the huge contribution of small businesses and encourages people to buy from small shops and independent firms.”
Seema and Rupa took the opportunity to step behind the counter at Rupa's neighbourhood cafe for a lesson with Artur Manasaryan, Latte Matte's chief barista. He told them that gluten free cakes, fresh juices and giant croissants are also big sellers.
“Small businesses are the economic lifeblood of our town centre and high-streets, I hope the local community will join us in supporting their enterprise and entrepreneurship this Christmas.
Latte Matte opened just three months ago, but despite the challenging times I have watched them become a real asset to my local community. This has been a great opportunity to bring Seema, a shadow minister, to sample the wonderful produce that is available on one of Ealing and Acton's many vibrant local high-streets.”
