Rupa's Pledges

During this cynically called General Election I will be campaigning on the policies and issues that I consistently promoted during my time in Parliament.

I WILL CONTINUE TO CAMPAIGN FOR THE UK TO REMAIN IN THE EUROPEAN UNION

“I broke the Labour whip three times to vote against the triggering of Article 50. I broke the Labour whip a further two times by voting for a referendum on the final Brexit package and for the unilateral preservation of the rights of EU nationals. A soft-Brexit is simply not good enough. I will not stand by whilst the Conservatives tear up the social fabric of this nation, cripple our economy and damage the livelihoods of my constituents and future generations of Ealing Central and Acton residents"

I WILL CONTINUE TO FIGHT TO SAVE OUR NHS

"The Conservatives are deliberately destroying our National Health Service. During my time in Parliament I called out David Cameron and Jeremy Hunt over the grossly unfair and gendered nature of the Junior Doctors Contracts. I spoke out for our overworked nurses by calling for an end to the punitive 1% public pay sector cap, and I fought against Tory backed A&E closures in Ealing Hospital. I fought the closure of Charring Cross Hospital, I fought the Conservative backed removal of the Royal Brompton's Congenital Heart Disease ward and I will continue to fight the Tories tooth and claw to protect our NHS upon my return to parliament”

I WILL CONTINUE TO FIGHT FOR GREATER  ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTIONS

“I have campaigned against the expansion of Heathrow, the dangerous levels of air pollution in London and the UK, fracking, Hinkley Power Point, dwindling fish stocks in the North Sea and the Conservative U-turn on implementing a total ban on the sale and importation of ivory in the UK. Upon my return to Parliament I will continue to fight to ensure that the Brexit backing Tories do not tear up our invaluable environmental protections. ”

I WILL PROMOTE THE BUILDING OF GENUINELY AFFORDABLE HOUSING AND NEW HOMES FOR FIRST TIME BUYERS

“Here in Ealing Central and Acton, rent inflation is astronomical, affordable homes are non-existent and first time buyers must commonly work for over twice the national average to save for their first homes. Now more than ever we need action to give renters longer, more secure tenancies and put a cap on soaring rents. During my time as an MP I consistently called out the Government on its disastrous and incompetent housing strategy. Only the Labour Party can address this housing crisis by building more genuinely affordable homes.”

I WILL CONTINUE TO FIGHT FOR AN END TO ANTI-SOCIAL BEHAVIOUR AND PUT AN END TO KNIFE CRIME

“We have seen a spike in knife crime across London over the past year as well as an increase in anti-social behaviour locally. During my time in Parliament I consistently sought to hold law breakers to account. From demanding that Sir Phillip Green be stripped of his peerage to fighting Tory propped up tax havens and calling on the Government to do more to tackle knife crime. I have now secured a concession from the tax havens through my work in the House of Commons and I will now be taking the fight to local lawbreakers”
