It has been revealed that since December you have accepted £10,000 in donations from the co-founder of investment firm Sloane Robinson. As you know, in 2012 this company was ordered to pay £13million in unpaid tax and national insurance contributions.
Together with many other voters in Ealing Central and Action I am disappointed to see that you have become embroiled in controversial donations.
Many voters find it hard to trust their elected politicians and your actions only result in making this worse. Being open and transparent shouldn't be an afterthought. People in Ealing deserve better.
Please can you write to me to answer the following questions at your earliest convenience:
1 - Will you pay back the £10,000 donation?
2 - Have you accepted any other cash donations from businesses or individuals that may bring you into disrepute and, if so, who are they and how much have they given you?
3 - Have you undertaken any activities in the House of Commons or in your role as a Member of Parliament that might be linked to Hugh Sloane and/or his business activities?
4 - What due diligence did you do prior to accepting this donation and did this involve contact with Conservative Central HQ?
5 - Prior to accepting the donation were you aware of the 2012 HMRC case involving Sloane Robinson?
In a week when all of us candidates have been repeatedly emailed on the subject of tax avoidance, these are timely questions. Look forward to hearing from you.
Dr Rupa Huq
